While Nintendo currently stands at the most reputable fighting title with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, it should be reminded that other titles of the genre still hold their own uniqueness and earn their own spotlight. Specifically speaking about Rivals of Aether: since the game’s release more than two years ago, the game has gained quite some traction as the title just five months after dropping on PC received a port for Xbox One.
Now according to the game’s creator, Dan Fornace, a Switch version is in the plans for the game sometime in the future. The news breaking from this past weekend’s Smashcon in Maryland as the creator disclosed that he is looking towards Nintendo’s platform to bring the game to next.
“One of the biggest upgrades is that Rivals will be going from a two-player online game to up to four players, which means you’ll be able to queue for 1v1, 2v2, or free-for-all online. We’re also updating the friendly lobbies system, allowing you also to go up to four players, but you can go past that and have spectators,” Fornace explains. “This allows you to do rotation lobbies. You can also spectate four-player matches. So these are all a ton of upgrades we’ve been working on behind-the-scenes.”
Upon the reasoning why the game has yet to receive a Switch port already is due to the netcode for the game and is currently being redone to properly function on the hybrid console as well as to support other functions that this version will introduce. We know this isn’t a issue Nintendo regarding competitio as the eShop already has Brawlhalla, so all that is left is for time to bring the game to the platform.
Speaking of Brawlhalla, just last week it was revealed that four WWE Superstars have been added to the game’s roster through the latest crossover with the Ubisoft title. You can read the full coverage of the update here.
Rivals of Aether is currently available for PC and Xbox One.
