At this moment, Rockstar Games stands very tall with the still ongoing Grand Theft Auto V. The title itself being ranked the NPD #1 top 20 best seller for the past decade is a very impressive achievement especially seeing the game initially releasing back in late 2013. Howbeit, the game continues to flourish on with its multiplayer GTA Online portion of the game as it reached record breaking highs this most recent holiday season.

But with all the success that has been achieved as the title is inching closer to its 7-year mark this September, many would suspect that the series would be leaning to shed its next installment fairly soon. And that is what happened to be speculated recently as the firm submitted its annual 10-K form this week.

In a report from VentureBeat, industry analyst Jeff Cohen speculated that the increase in marketing commitments for Rockstar Games entails that a new Grand Theft Auto title is on the way. The report swiftly picked up traction for excited fans as there was the possibility that we might be facing a new Grand Theft Auto announcement in light of the coming next-generation consoles.

“Management [Take-Tow Interactive] has spoken very confidently about the pipeline over the next five years and existing live services execution has been excellent. However, the timing of the next Grand Theft Auto remains top-of-mind for investors, particularly with the stock near all-time-highs.” But following the report, Rockstar Games clarified with gamesindustry.biz that the speculation made by Cohen is not the case.

Speaking with GamesBeat as well, Take-Two Interactive tells the outlet subsidiary that “marketing-obligation metric refers only to its contracts with third parties.” Adding that the remark made on the 10-K form does not reference the same marketing budget for its internal studio, Rockstar Games.

While there is no timeline for a new Grand Theft Auto for now, there is plenty to expect for the currently released projects. Take-Two Interactive told that both GTA Online & Red Dead Online will continue to expect new updates throughout the course of 2020. You can read the full report by heading here.
