Following the recent tease from developer Yacht Games on Twitter, the newest expansion for Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove is multiplayer.
Shovel Knight Showdown is a new competitive multiplayer mode that puts a twist on the more single player-focused title. In the reveal from IGN, we got a look on what’s coming in this add-on. Introducing a list of modes for multiplayer up to four-players as well as mini-games and challenges for the single player.
Introducing modes like Showdown and Gem Quest can be set up as either one-on-one or four-player free-for-alls. And you do have the option to play with friends or against AI enemies to fill up empty spots. The outlet has a ten minute gameplay video showing off the upcoming expansion.
Up to 16 characters will be available to play when Showdown releases, including all knights from the game’s story. With maps set in the already familiar world from the game, new stages and songs will also be arriving with the game’s launch.
Showdown will cost $9.99 separately or for those who own Treasure Trove will receive it as a free update. The multiplayer expansion will later be available for all listed platforms except Nintendo 3Ds and PlayStation Vita.
Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove is available now for Xbox One, PlayStation 3 & 4, Playstation Vita, PC, Nintendo 3DS, and Nintendo Switch
