Production firm Story Kitchen in recent time has further established itself into delivering even more video games in film form. Previously, the company was recognized for its involvement in the entire Sonic the Hedgehog trilogy at Paramount Pictures. Currently, Story Kitchen is to continue this partnership with the next Sonic the Hedgehog film set to release in 2027 next year.
Additionally, other major IPs are being adapted into live-action via Story Kitchen as well. In 2025, when the iron was its hottest, it was reported that a motion pictured based on Sandfall Interactive’s Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was in the works. Not only that, but it was also revealed that Sleeping Dogs was being picked up by the firm with Simu Liu (Shung-Chi, Barbie) also selected for the project.
Now in a new development, it was revealed recently that Sleeping Dogs has now found its director. Given the long history that the project has faced with its initial announcement taking place back in 2017, it is an exciting new piece of information. Via a post on X, star Liu revealed that Nobody 2 director Timo Tjahjanto will be taking the role for Sleeping Dogs also.
Details remain sparse on the current state of the film & its casting. Similarly, the same is also understood for the IP as well. Although Square Enix sold off the series alongside other prominent western franchises & talent in 2022, there has been no word on if Embracer Group will revisit Sleeping Dogs in the future or not.
What has been established from this deal – and even handled by Story Kitchen – was Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft. The animated series aired in fall 2024 and was recently welcomed a second season on Netflix. You can read the initial report by heading here.
