1047 Games has been hard at work on Splitgate 2 for a while now, hosting many alpha and beta tests over the last year. Today, Splitgate 2 has officially been released, and Ian Proulx, CEO of 1047 Games, appeared on stage at Summer Game Fest 2025.
It was announced that Splitgate 2 has a new Battle Royale mode available to play now on Xbox, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC. It was the big surprise they had in store all along, with many teases along the way.
At PAX East 2025, we interviewed Ian Proulx about Splitgate 2 if he ever considered a campaign and other features. He kept teasing that something big was coming, and it turned out to be the Battle Royale. Splitgate 2 also has The Lab, which is a map creation tool where the community can create their own arena and game modes, similar to Halo’s Forge mode.
Here are all the details of the Splitgate 2 Battle Royale mode:
- 60-Player Showdowns: Each match challenges 15 teams of four to work together while shutting down the competition to emerge from no-holds-barred firefights as the lone winner.
- An Expansive, Interconnected Map: Matches are hosted on Split Worlds, a gigantic colosseum with five unique biomes linked by massive World Portals allowing teams to get the jump on their competition.
- Choose where to drop in across Drought’s scorching desert, Glacier’s slick snowscape, Inferno’s active volcano, or Fracture’s cluster of asteroids. After landing, players who stay in the match long enough will gain access to a fifth biome – the central area of Sanctum’s foreboding ruins, which offers special, powerful loot for those who can survive sparring to get it.
- Strategy Shifting Events: Mid-match scenarios challenge teams to think quick and adapt even quicker, like the Portal EMP Event’s shutdown of portaling or the Drop Frenzy Event’s tide-turning upswing in the frequency of Air Drops.
- Immense Variety and Replayability: With lootable chests, chances for eliminated players to return to the fray, and events preventing matches from playing out the same way twice, Splitgate: Battle Royale revitalizes the classic thrills of battle royale with Splitgate 2’s distinctly thrilling portal-based FPS action.
