Star Wars Battlefront II Producer Shares Hopes To Return For A Third Installment

The current structure for Star Wars games at Electronic Arts is still holding despite the previous layoffs. In March 2024, the publisher was hit with 5 percent of its workforce being let go. However, it was clarified that the current roadmap for its Lucasarts Games projects are to remain. One title that was already confirmed was a sequel for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. But, there is more to come from the playbook as well.

Since the initial confirmation on more titles, Respawn Entertainment confirmed a partnership with developer BitReactor. It wasn’t until April 2025 it revealed Star Wars: Zero Company – a new turn-based action title set in the Star Wars universe. The game is to be released in 2026. But one project that didn’t make the cut was an internal FPS title. After being shuttered internally, details revealed it was to be a Mandalorian game inspired by the Disney+ series.

But, there is still hunger for a new Star Wars experience set within that realm regardless. Ever since DICE announced to be putting a plug on support for Star Wars Battlefront II, fans were hoping an incubator project for a third game would be announced. Apparently the new reign by the Apex Legends team dismantled any hopes for another sequel, reports shared in 2022.

Ultimately, the wait has been long enough and former developers are speaking publicly on desires to make the next game. Via a thread on Reddit, Star Wars Battlefront II producer Mats Helge Holm expresses interest to circle up other talent from the team to return for a new game. “Me [confirming she wants to return], and having heard around my group of ex-colleagues, we want to get the gang back together.”

Elsewhere in the thread, Holm added: “I hope so, would love to see a new Battlefront game.” Currently, DICE is occupied with the new effort on the next Battlefield title. Previous earnings calls confirmed the game aims to ship in 2026. One noteworthy detail is the objective for the unannounced title is to recapture the feel of the 3rd & 4th installments.
