More than a year ago, Square Enix & Team Ninja (Ninja Gaiden, Nioh) announced a new project within the Final Fantasy IP, Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin. Despite the excitement that the team could bring to the franchise, the game to many did feel to be dated with many of the creative approaches to its development. Regardless, our review amplified the positives on the release back in the winter.

“Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin is one of the best spin-offs this historic franchise has seen, and Jack is by far the best Final Fantasy protagonist in quite a long time,” critic David Rodriguez penned at the time, Later in the summer, Team Ninja officially rolled out the first expansion for the game, ‘Trials of the Dragon King’.

Now this week, Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin returns once again with its second add-on, Wanderer of the Rift. You can watch the original trailer in the video below:

“Wanderer of the Rift picks up the storyline in recently released expansion Trials of the Dragon King, in which players can pit Jack and his allies against Gilgamesh, the dimension traveling fan-favorite character from the Final Fantasy series,” Square Enix writes for the overview of the new expansion in the press release.

More interesting is the other features included to Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin. In that, the update welcomes a new Gilgamesh Difficulty mode for players itching for an even greater challenge. Atop of that, a new gameplay feature ‘Dimension Bringer’ which slows down enemies and ‘Monster Bells’ that improve the relationship with their monster.
