The Recent Addition Of Xbox Players Breaths New Life Into Helldivers 2 As It Shot Up To 500K Concurrent Players

At release, Rectify Gaming scored Helldivers 2 a 7.5/10. While a fulfilling experience, it was anticipated post-launch will really propel the game then. “Arrowhead’s Helldivers 2 is an addictively fun co-op shooter that delivers explosive thrills and laughs, when it works at least. […] The game could use more content and features, […] But it is indeed a worthy successor to the original game, and a great homage to the sci-fi space action genre.”

That was until a ground-shattering announcement: Xbox Series X|S will be added to the game’s lobbies in August. To make things better, it Arrowhead Game Studios announced a collaboration with Halo Studios for a Halo ODST-inspired Warbond. When speaking on the decision to extend an arm to the opposing side, the developer revealed that Sony is to blame for Xbox now being added to Helldivers 2.

And now with a few days behind us since it released, Helldivers 2 has succumbed to a major spike in its effort. Fighting for Super Earth, it is revealed that over 500K concurrent players was achieved this weekend. On Discord, CEO Shams Jorjani posted the official count confirming the milestone for the game.

On X, the official Helldivers account made a statement on this new player count record. “Today we give thanks to every new helldiver that has joined the valiant fight for managed democracy. Since the opening of new enlistment centres in our recovering mega cites we have seen an unprecedented jump in recruitment among citizens of all ages and classifications.”

On Steam Charts, the 24-hour peak for Helldivers 2 was roughly 130,000. So that combined with PlayStation & Xbox shows a major influx for the game. Compared to this time last year, Helldivers 2 was met with a 90 percent decline in players. You can read the full report by heading here.
