Following the release of CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher 3 to Nintendo Switch, we would assume that is where mainline support for new additional features would cease, right? However, it was revealed through an abrupt update that emerged earlier in the week that tells of a new addition being made to the game.

Coinciding with the PC version of the 2015 title, the latest update for The Witcher 3 adds cross-save support to the game. Essentially, the progress you initially make on either of the two platforms will be compatible to play on the other. Originally, the update was brought to public eye from Reliweb which reported on the update in South Korea, but now players can use the new function in most regions.

In light of the unique setting feature being added, there are other new characteristics thanks to this update on Nintendo Switch. Namely the most interesting aside from save file integration is the added touch screen support and graphical settings being added. Being very self-explanatory, users can navigate the menu and operate some aspects of the game through the functioning touch screen interface. As for the visible adjustments, things like bloom, depth of field, light shafts, and motion blur can be tweaks now.

The discussion of potentially integrating console support to cross-save functionality, however, has been cut short. It was stated by a CD Projekt Red spokesperson who shared with US Gamer that there are no plans to include Xbox and PlayStation.

This option is something we designed for the Switch version specifically, together with Saber Interactive—the team which was closely cooperating with us on the Switch port. There are no plans regarding similar functionality in the other versions of The Witcher 3.

Expanding on the discussion surrounding Saber Interactive, it was revealed recently that the American game studio was acquired by THQ Nordic parent company Embracer Group. The team responsible for World War Z and porting The Witcher 3 will now operate under the European-based publisher.

Do you plan on using the cross-save feature for Switch/PC?

The Witcher 3 is out now for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
