Licensed video games while rare are certainly a thing not practiced so much anymore. And if executed, it is almost exclusively for horror film franchises. Just recently, it was revealed that A Quiet Place plans to release its own video game – A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead – later this October just ahead of Halloween. Another series we’ve seen be adapted is The Evil Dead.

From our review for the game, we gave it a score of 9.2/10. “Evil Dead the Game is one of my personal favorites of the Summer, and it’s nice seeing a beloved franchise treated with absolute care to its fans, and source material, while also providing a great game to pick up and play.” Now in a new development from IGN, developer Boss Team Games is taking on a new IP in the same genre.

It is reported that Halloween is to take up the mantle in video games with two new projects underway. While details are sparse, it is confirmed the games will be developed in Unreal Engine 5. What’s more, the original director of the 1978 film John Carpenter will be offering his expertise in developing the new titles.

Everyone at Boss Team Games are huge fans of horror and Halloween obviously holds a special place in the hearts of all horror fans. Getting to work with iconic characters like Michael Myers and build on John Carpenter’s original vision is literally a dream come true. Everyone at Boss Team is thrilled and honored to be working with Malek Akkad and John Carpenter to deliver a one-of-a-kind experience that fans of the movie and video games will love.

Steve Harris, Boss Team Games CEO

“As a huge gamer myself, I’m thrilled to help bring Michael Myers to life again in this game, and my hope is to scare you silly,” Carpenter adds in his own statement regarding the new announcement. Note, that this is the first game in over four decades since the Atari 20600 title that was released in 1983. The Shape has appeared as a featured character in Dead by Daylight and even Call of Duty: Ghosts as DLC.

Last summer, series composer Harry Manfredini for Friday the 13th in an interview told Rely on Horror that a new video game is in the works. This follows the previous Friday the 13th: The Video Game which did get shuttered after legal disputes over the ownership conflicted with multiple parties.
