Player Creativity Comes To Sea Of Thieves In Season 20 With New ‘Custom Seas’ Mode

With the addition of Sea of Thieves to PlayStation 5 in 2024, the moment opened new possibilities for the game. One that was unforeseen was the Destiny 2 collaboration back in March 2025. The event featured a treasure trove of themed items for players to indulge in across the game then. ‘Lightbearer’ was said to be a creative endeavor translating the Destiny 2 universe into Sea of Thieves.

As for anticipated updates that hit Sea of Thieves, the addition of Season 18 did shake things plenty. In that, a new adversary faction of ancient foes came with an abundance of equally antique loot. And Season 19 was no different in bespoke content. The title update welcomed an overhaul to the overall PvP as part of the ‘Fights & Festivals’ included in the season.

Now at the XBOX Games Showcase on Sunday, Rare & XBOX Game Studios revealed the new ‘Custom Seas’ that is coming to Sea of Thieves in Season 20. You can watch the new trailer in the video below:

“Rare have lifted the lid on what’s arriving in Season 20 of Sea of Thieves, and it’s an update that will put players in command like never before! In Custom Seas, you’ll have the power to shape the world,” XBOX Wire writes for the new update that will be hitting Sea of Thieves next month.

“Set the rules to create your own custom game modes, add in items and enemies as you see fit, freely assign crews, and capture the resulting mayhem via Free Camera mode to unlock boundless storytelling potential. A number of example creations were also shown, including a Skeleton Scoreboard contest and a Rowboat Royale!”
