For years, Amazon Games Montreal has been quietly working on a new IP while the project is in incubation. Hiring veteran Ubisoft talent like Xavier Marquis when founding the developer back in 2021, it wasn’t until this past fall that the first details on the new game was shared. Announcing March of Giants, it was a new free-to-play, MOBA and already paved ahead a closed alpha test for the game the week following.
Now, Ubisoft announced that the firm is moving forward with March of Giants as the publisher has acquired the IP from Amazon Games Montreal. It also appears that original developers of Ubisoft are to also return to the publisher as a full circle of events with March of Giants now under the guise of the Ubisoft with Marquis alongside Alexandre Parizeau attached to the project.
“Returning to Ubisoft brings things full circle. We built some of our most meaningful work here, and we’re excited to continue developing March of Giants from within Ubisoft. This game has enormous potential, and I know Ubisoft can help us take it to the next level,” Marquis, creative director for March of Giants says in a statement.
“My thanks go to Amazon for their commitment during the first chapters of March of Giants. Our closed alpha was an important milestone and showed a glimpse of the game’s real promise,” senior production lead Parizeau added. “Now, by joining Ubisoft, we’re uniting behind a shared vision to build March of Giants into one of the next great, enduring MOBAs.”
Ubisoft in recent weeks has shown to be taking new approaches to gaming thanks to the influence of Tencent. The most recent example came with the formation of Vantage Studios – a new venture that will spearhead popular IPs like Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six.
