Although the Electronic Software Association (ESA) held its annual Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) back in June 2021, the year following the COVID-19 outbreak, 2022 was met with the show being canceled and publishers handling its own presentations instead. But that was only one instance as the ESA did promise plans to return later in 2023 the year following.
By September this past fall, the ESA properly announced E3 is to be held in the coming June with a full showcase in Los Angeles. The only thing left is to learn which firms will be making an appearance at the ReedPop event. Originally, Ubisoft announced it will be present at the show in a previous statement made back in February to gamesindustry.biz.
However, a new statement is revealed by Video Game Chronicles that Ubisoft will in fact not be attending E3 and is to instead host its own Ubisoft Forward separate from the annual in-person event. “E3 has fostered unforgettable moments across the industry throughout the years,” a spokesperson comments as the firm plans to “move in a different direction.”
Adding, “While we initially intended to have an official E3 presence, we’ve made the subsequent decision to move in a different direction, and will be holding a Ubisoft Forward Live event on 12th June in Los Angeles. We look forward to sharing more details with our players very soon.” On Tuesday, Ubisoft offered a proper announcement for the show to be held this June.
This is not the first instance of major publishers pulling from the E3 show this year. In the past, we witnessed Nintendo confirm its absence for the show later this June. Additionally, Microsoft also expressed a similar decision with its own Xbox+Bethesda Show around the same time including a following Starfield showcase as well this June.
Even more, Summer Game Fest is to host its own in-person presentation at the YouTube Theater in June as well. While originally paved for the digital format, the show tested the waters with a press event last year and confirmed a full presentation will be held in Los Angeles.
