The demand for modern AAA titles continues as developers & publishers invest a good chunk of its resources and talent towards shipping these big box releases. As for game creators to alleviate the weight on each job, artificial intelligence is a tool that both PlayStation & Xbox are planning to utilize moving forward. In one report, PlayStation lead architect Mark Cerney announced a new partnership with AMD for AI development assistance to improve graphics and performance in its titles.

Similarly, Microsoft has also been eager to inject AI into more of its projects as well. Previously, the Xbox firm shared its arrangement with Inworld to develop new game tools for its game development work as well. Additionally, Microsoft also looks to include AI for its users as well on console with even an Xbox chatbot as reported by The Verge. The firm even went as far to demonstrate CoPilot assisted AI for Minecraft too.

This week, Microsoft showcases its new tool Muse: derived from machine learning, the new AI model in collaboration with Ninja Theory and Microsoft Research is said to be the catalyst for improvement in game development as well as assisting in game preservation too. You can watch the ‘Introducing Muse’ video below:

“One of the things we care a lot about at Xbox is game preservation. And I think about an opportunity to have models learn about older games, games that were maybe tied to unique pieces of hardware what that engine on that hardware is, kind of time will erode the amount of hardware that’s out there that can actually play a game,” Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer says. “But you can imagine a world where, from gameplay data and video, that a model could learn old games and really make them portable to any platform where these models could run.”

Dom Mathhews, Ninja Theory studio head added: “And I think for us as a game creator, the thing I’m always really interested in is, ‘how can we help our teams do more?’ ‘How can we help them push their creative ambitions and their creativity even further?’ So technology like this for me, and I think for our studio here at Ninja Theory, it’s not about AI to generate content, but it’s actually about creating workflows and approaches that allow our team here of 100 creative experts to do more, to go further, to iterate quicker, to ideate quicker, to bring the ideas in their heads to life in a tangible form for others to see.”
