Last time we talked about Phil Spencer, head of Xbox at Microsoft, he was speaking with fans via Twitter regarding game sequels and expanding on existing franchises versus beginning new ones. Today, however, Spencer answered some questions that many Xbox fans have likely had since last time, and since E3 last summer in general regarding Xbox’s Project Scorpio.
Project Scorpio was first unveiled at the tail-end of Xbox’s presentation at E3, and fans have been rumbling for any bit of information regarding the final product.  As the final consumer product isn’t due out until the end of this calendar year, not much is known and fans hoped to gauge expectations for what E3 may hold.
When asked about progress on Project Scorpio, Spencer replied he was “absolutely” happy with what he’s seeing and that “1st party teams are getting engines tuned [with] great progress across studios, platform, and [hardware].” After a few fans tweeted asking explicitly whether or not Project Scorpio would make an appearance at E3 this year, Spencer acknowledged that fans really want to see the product / progress-thus-far, though we’ll only likely get a nod to the project’s progress rather than any sort of unveilings or hardware.
While many fans are glad to see Xbox officially announce continuations to their favorite franchise like Halo and Forza Motorsport, there were some responses to Spencer saying he “understands that people like new things at E3” that hinted at a desire for out-of-the-blue announcements of new IPs like ReCore, Sea Of Thieves, and the now-cancelled Scalebound alongside the expected continuations and sequels. At the moment, E3 is still a shimmer on the horizon and there are still many months we may find a leak in and get a peak at what’s brewing for fans for E3.
