
For the Silent Hill franchise, Konami is on a current high for the series. Already, the publisher shipped Silent Hill 2 last year with Bloober Team returning the beloved 2001 horror to modern consoles. It was also confirmed that both Konami & the Polish game studio are partnering on a new endeavor. Both parties revealed a remake for the classic 1999 Silent Hill is now underway.
As for other projects in the series, Konami this past September launched Silent Hill f. The new title is an in-house effort that explores the universe in an 1960 Japan. Already, it sold more than one million copies. Additionally, the long-awaited sequel to Christophe Gans’ 2006 Silent Hill ‘Return to Silent Hill’, is arriving to theaters this coming January.
Recently, there was also a rising report on last year’s PlayStation 5 exclusive also hitting more platforms. In that, both Xbox Series X|S & Nintendo Switch 2 were on the radar for Konami. Now, the game has received an ESRB listing for Xbox Series X|S – on Halloween. “Silent Hill 2 is rated M for Mature 17+ by the ESRB with Blood and Gore, Sexual Themes, Strong Language, and Violence. This is a horror adventure game in which players assume the role of a man returning to a mysterious town while being tormented by his past.”
The ESRB description continues: “Silent Hill 2 is rated M for Mature 17+ by the From a third-person perspective, players explore the town of Silent Hill, interact with characters, and battle humans and creatures (e.g., Pyramid Head, mannequins, monsters). Players use pistols, shotguns, rifles, and knives to kill enemies. Combat is highlighted by realistic gunfire, cries of pain, and blood-splatter effects. Some environments depict large bloodstains and/or intestines/organs on walls, floors, and surrounding bodies.
“ESRB with Blood and Gore, Sexual Themes, Strong Language, and Violence. This is a horror adventure game in which players assume the role of a man returning to a mysterious town while being tormented by his past. Cutscenes and illustrations depict further instances of violence and/or blood and gore: characters impaled; a character suffocated to death with a pillow; enemies with body parts sewn together.”
It adds: “The game contains some suggestive/sexual material: characters pole-dancing in strip-club settings; posters of women in revealing outfits (e.g., bra and thong, deep cleavage); dialogue alluding to sexuality and/or sexual abuse/misconduct (e.g., ‘Remember that time in the hotel? You said you took everything. But you forgot that videotape we made’; ‘Don’t touch me…You’re only after one thing…Or you could just force me, like he always did.’). The word ‘sh*t’ appears in the game.”
