For the most part, 2020 has been a real obstacle for the bevy of gaming-centered events and shows. In that, we witnessed the cancellation for one of the largest events in the industry, the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) due to the novel coronavirus. Howbeit, the industry has grew accustomed to the shift in gatherings and went to the route online showcases as a primary alternative.
Prior to the shelving of this year’s E3 in June, Geoff Keighley disclosed to be absent from the event to host the annual E3 Coliseum. Instead, he shared briefly after to be organizing the Summer Game Fest as well as the Gamescom Opening Night Live running in a span of four months between May to August. But for one certain event where a mass audience is expected to be present, Keighley has other plans for that.
Talking about this year’s Game Awards show, Keighley when speaking on IGN Unfiltered unveiled that operations will be dealt differently due to changes imposed by social distancing precautions.
What I will say about it [the Game Awards] is, we have a very interesting plan for the show this year. We’re definitely doing it. A lot of people are [asking], “Are you delaying it? The Oscars are being postponed, are you postponing The Game Awards?” We are absolutely not. We’ll share more in the coming weeks about it, but it’s actually probably going to be our biggest show yet.
Keighley continues on by stating that the show will for sure not be held in-person, but that aspects of what to expect can be collected from how this week’s Gamescom Opening Night Live will be executed. “I’m really passionate about [still] doing the show live, versus something pre-recorded. So, yeah, we’re working on some scenarios for ways we can present the show live with a bit of spectacle to people…”
Elsewhere today, Keighley also disclosed what viewers can expect from the shortly approaching Gamescom Opening Night Live show later this Thursday. Unveiling 38 games to be revealed with 18 publishers to be involved with the showcase. You can read the full report by heading here.
