It was just a little over a year ago that news broke for video game developer Insomniac Games going under new ownership. In that, it was announced the firm would be a new first-party studio for Sony Interactive Entertainment as the team would be working on PlayStation titles exclusively now. At the time of the news breaking, it was surely uncertain the direction the team would be heading with a Sony in charge of operations.
It was not until this past June that the development team unveiled a new entry in the Ratchet and Clank series will be underway for the next-generation PlayStation. Announcing Rift Apart, the titular duo would once again star in this new adventure of dimensional leaps and buzzing planets as the pair are separated creating a new predicament. Stated to be unique to PlayStation 5, it was undetermined when the game would be available at the time of the reveal.
Now during this week’s Gamescom Opening Night Live, Insomniac Games has officially shared that Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart will be shipping later this year.
So Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is coming out in the PS5 launch window. So, we haven’t announced a release – specific release date yet, so stay tuned for that.
Mike Daly, Insomniac Games’ Game Director
Gathered from the statement, it is fairly vague as to when the project will actually ship. While the launch window does imply the game to potentially ship for the same day that the PlayStation 5 hits store shelves, it does leave room to possibly witness a release elsewhere during holiday 2020. So perhaps a December release if not the presumable November timeframe of the system’s launch.
Prior to Insomniac Games sharing a more specific release window for Rift Apart, the developer also showcased a new in-depth look at the game with a new demo. So for fans that were still hungry from the first feature earlier this summer will surely be satisfied with the newest gameplay shown recently.
It so happens that Insomniac Games is also involved with shipping another exclusive PlayStation launch title, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. The game is told to be a standalone entry and feature a new experience in the shoes of the titular hero. You can read the full report by heading here.
Will you be picking up Rift Apart when it launches later this year?
