Ubisoft’s newest FPS game, The Division made more than $330 million just 5 days after its release. This number accounts for physical and digital copies of the game. The Division also is known as the fastest-selling game so far for Ubisoft. The Division also reached 1.2 million concurrent players this weekend alone, and already players have spent more than 100 million hours in-game according to Ubisoft.
Activision’s Destiny sales were only slightly lower, getting $325 million in its first 5 days, and averaging the same number of active hours, and players.
Ubisoft online services VP Stephanie explains how the Division is doing so great.
“On top of record-breaking sales, player engagement is the highest ever for any Ubisoft title, demonstrating, among other things, that our investments in our online infrastructure and services are paying off, We are delivering an online experience that’s on par with the best in the industry, and that matches the quality and connectivity demanded by The Division and its players.”
The Division is a repetitive game which has “some” similar Destiny gameplay mechanics. This could be one reason that the sales, and player numbers are so similar, but I also think that a lot of gamers out there enjoy these types of games. The Division will not die down soon and more DlC is to come out later this year, so if you want to play long hours with your friends, and enjoy roaming through a run-down New York then I would recommend you playing The Division.
