Regarding Microsoft’s next moves for its Xbox platform, the firm is looking to expand xCloud. Already, the firm has established that the service is to extend to more browsers for the greater public in the coming weeks as it exits limited beta alongside a dedicated version on the Xbox app later in 2021. By extension, there is also an official xCloud device that is said to be entering production as well, Microsoft cited this week.

Additionally, Microsoft is also eager to expand its first-party repertoire with more acquisitions as well. However, unlike previous comments made on the advancement for new talent, Microsoft told that it is expecting to continue purchasing until Xbox has a major release every quarter. But, there is more to the press release from the company.

Elsewhere as transcribed by Video Game Chronicles, Microsoft goes on to remark on its route to supporting more games on PC. While the first to truly pioneer first-party releases on the platform, Microsoft is also noted to support cross-platform purchases through its Xbox Play Anywhere program. But, Xbox lead Phil Spencer goes to criticize other platforms for its handling of the pursuit.

So right now, we are the only platform shipping games on console, PC and cloud simultaneously. Others bring console games to PC years later, not only making people buy their hardware up front, but then charging them a second time to play on PC. And of course, all of our games are in our subscription service day one, full cross-platform included.

We have a huge growth opportunity on PC. We expanded to simultaneously shipping our first-party games on both console and PC. And last year we more than doubled our first-party retail games sales on PC. And we’re also one of the biggest third-party publishers on Steam. Looking forward, we see continued growth on PC next year though another amazing slate of Xbox Game Studios games and Bethesda games coming to PC, while at the same time, Game Pass on PC will be a critical part of our Windows gaming strategy.

Spencer further elaborates on the new xCloud service as it opens even more opportunity to those without the required hardware to play the new, demanding releases. “And with cloud gaming, we now have the ability to bring these great AAA-quality games to the hundreds of millions of below-spec Windows PCs that to date haven’t been able to play the hit games that everybody sees.”

Previously, Sony Interactive Entertainment announced to be pursuing more releases for its first-party titles on PC. Already, games such as Horizon Zero Dawn, Death Stranding, and Days Gone are available. However, there was an opportunity for more to be available, but, the PlayStation company turned down the offer from Epic Games to port its titles.

Being apparent with how Microsoft is offering its titles to a platitude of systems simultaneously at launch in contrast to its competitors gives the Xbox company the high ground this time. But, Microsoft has previously casted questionable criticism with its internal review for The Last of Us Part II. You can read the full report by heading here.
