In future reference to the plans for the Final Fantasy IP, Square Enix is not shy to expanding the franchises and its subseries into new directions. Of course, the AAA Final Fantasy VII Remake is at the forefront with progression already underway for the second of three parts for the remade experience. However, the firm is also planning to deliver a new experience for fans in the action hack and slash genre with Team Ninja as well.
During E3 back in June, Square Enix unveiled Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin. The game was previously rumored to be a partnered project between Team Ninja & Square Enix and was later verified to be accurate. However, many criticisms are casted toward the new experience due to the choice in voice acting alongside its use of texture rendering not meeting modern standards.
But while the two AAA games are underway, Tetsuya Nomura in a previous interview with Famitsu confirms that Final Fantasy X-3 is still a possibility. Translated by Gematsu, Nomura says, “Nojima [scenario wirter] has more or less written an outline of what a Final Fantasy X-3 would look like if it existed. [The audio drama] Final Fantasy X: Will and [novel sequel] Final Fantasy X-2.5 were written based on this. It’s dormant now, but the concept itself exists.”
While the original Final Fantasy X-2 shipped back in 2003 for the PlayStation 2, the original Final Fantasy X & Final Fantasy X-2 did receive a remastered release more recently in 2013. But, Nomura adds that there is still a possibility after Final Fantasy VII Remake. ” The possibility isn’t zero. But I can’t talk about it until we finish production on Final Fantasy VII Remake first.”
Previously, it was reported that Final Fantasy VII Remake is to expect a port to PC. While Square Enix blatantly shared PC footage of the game during the initial launch for PlayStation 4, a data entry for the game was uncovered over on the Epic Games Store.
