As many are familiar from Sony Interactive Entertainment’s prominent properties, only a couple are legacy IPs. In that, Ratchet and Clank alongside God of War are among the few franchises anticipated for the newest PlayStation 5 system. However, other beloved IPs remain in the past. However, the PlayStation company plans to resurrect one series through another medium, entertainment.
Previously, it was announced that Twisted Metal is receiving a television show through PlayStation Pictures. While slowly progressing, more information began to surface in 2021. To start, the TV series already acquired writes. In that, both Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick – who formerly worked on Deadpool & Zombieland – is penning the story for the show.
Additionally, the episodic series is said to also be tied into a new, unannounced game as per GamesBeat’s Jeff Grubb. According to sources that spoke with Video Game Chronicles, the alleged title is to be outsourced to Lucid Games which shipped Destruction All-Stars earlier in the year.
However, former game director David Jaffe on YouTube responded to the story revealing to be upset on not being included in the project, which Video Game Chronicles transcribed. You can view the video below:
“Let’s be clear: Sony owes me nothing, our relationship ended somewhere in late 2018. But I will say that, emotionally, it feels shitty, if any of this is true, to not have been contacted at all.” He continues, “It pisses me off a little, but that’s the emotional side of me talking. The truth of the matter is look, they have a business to run, they’re not thinking about me, and if they are… fuck it, I wouldn’t change what I’m doing now, and I wouldn’t change the way I’m doing it.”
While uncertain as to why Sony Interactive Entertainment left Jaffe out of the loop, he shares his excitement for a new game coming. “At the end of the day, I’m excited that Twisted Metal is still going in some form or fashion, I will be there to play it and if they ask for my help of course I will be there.”
On a side note, Jaffe went on to explain his knowledge of Sony internally which could damage the company, but, he concludes he would not spare the details out of decency. “I know things. I know where the bodies are buried. Hell, I know who pulled the trigger before they buried the fucking bodies,” he said. “I’m not saying I’m going to give shit away that’s going to hurt people, because I don’t want to be a dick, but… you should’ve called. You should’ve called.”
Twisted Metal was near and dear to my heart, I made two franchises for you guys, I’ve never said anything on my stream that has been anything other than honest and accurate. There are things that I haven’t said… I could literally play you guys.
Let’s say this – and I would never reveal these things – but let’s just say that you’re morons Sony if you think that a lot of your meetings are unrecorded and unshared out in the world, because that’s not the case. But I would never share that.
Despite Jaffe’s disassociation from the alleged project, he goes on to disclose his ties to the television show is greater than with the claimed title. That they [PlayStation Pictures] “stay in better contact with me than the PlayStation people” when the announcement came for the casting of Anthony Mackie for the TV series recently.
Going on that Jaffe is certainly familiar with operations within Sony Interactive Entertainment, it should be noted on a previous comment from him. In that, he told the PlayStation company has strong ambitions to take on Xbox Game Pass outside of PlayStation Now. You can read the full report by heading here.
