Although Sega previously stood to be a console titan in the late 1990s to early 2000s, the firm now sits as a prominent publisher with no hardware on the market. Despite the change of direction for the Japanese firm, Sega is currently sitting on a mound of properties that nostalgic fans wish the firm would utilize. In a recent financial report from Sega Sammy, the company is searching for which IPs to remake or reintroduce later on.

Currently, franchises like Panzer Dragoon is being emphasized with remake initiatives from Forever Entertainment. Sometime in late 2021, Panzer Dragoon II Zwei: Remake is planned to be delivered. Additionally, developer Wildman Inc. is to ship a virtual reality project, Panzer Dragoon: Voyage Record as well this year.

However, reports from Sega indicate that the VR title is now cancelled altogether. The statement transcribed by Gematus of the now-deleted posts reads, “Panzer Dragoon: Voyage Record has been cancelled due to the cancellation of the contract by Sega and the death of the producer, Haruto Watanabe, CEO of Wildman Inc. Thank you for your support.” Howbeit, the outlet goes on to report several friends of Watanabe claim he is still alive.

Noted, the arrangement for Sega & Wildman Inc. has since been squandered, but, details on the reasoning for the decision has yet to be clarified. The game was announced back in 2020 around the same time Forever Entertainment shared its plans to remake the first two Panzer Dragoon titles. No release date or platforms were confirmed for the VR project.

Earlier this year, developer Forever Entertainment announced to be collaborating with Square Enix to remake projects from the Japanese publisher. The deal appears to be swayed by its efforts with Sega’s Panzer Dragoon. Much so that a later arrangement with Nintendo was also formed. You can read the full report by heading here.
