Sonic The Hedgehog 2 Film To Feature First Trailer At The Game Awards This Week

In the unfortunate lineage that is video game-based film, the negative connotation is slowly starting to shift thanks to Sonic the Hedgehog. Back in its box office release back in Valentine’s Day 2020, the movie erupted in its opening weekend outperforming 2019’s Detective Pikachu. Enough so that a follow-up is promised with a series planned. It was not until this February that the production was officially announced.

But before the teaser dropped, it was in July 2020 that Sonic voice actor Ben Schwartz revealed the new movie is slated for April next year, the 8th to be specific. Then following onto June this summer, filming for the sequel concluded in Hawaii as revealed by director Jeff Fowler. But, the announcements did not stop there as Idris Elba was revealed to voice Knuckles later on.

Now with less than half a year until the movie drops, the trailer for the new motion picture is to officially arrive this week. The official Sonic the Hedgehog Twitter account announced that the first-look is arriving at The Game Awards on Thursday. The reveal was originally hinted though an exchange on the platform earlier this week.

Even more, host Geoff Keighley stated that there is a “Sonic double header” planned for The Game Awards this week. The phrasing is suggested to implicate a second announcement/reveal of sorts is to take place. If tangible, it is likely to be the 2022 Sonic the Hedgehog title teased earlier this year. Recently, Sega trademarked ‘Sonic Frontiers’ in Japan which is gathered to be the title for the upcoming game.

Additionally, Tails voice actor Colleen O’Shaughnessey reveals she will be reprising her role for the second movie in a new post on Twitter. “Taking my old pal Tails for another adventure. Thrilled to announce I’m the voice of Miles “Tails” Prower in #SonicMovie2!”

Elsewhere previously, leaked images from the set for Sonic the Hedgehog 2 revealed both Tails & Knuckles to star in the film. However, the more interesting details is the hinting at G.U.N. which is notably decorated across Sonic Adventure 2 to be injected into the second movie. You can read the full report by heading here.
