Over the past year, we witnessed PC exclusive releases from Xbox Game Studios dominate the platform. In 2020, Microsoft Flight Simulator took players by surprise with the sheer scale and attention to detail the game offers. Additionally, the game was later discovered to be receiving an Xbox version for the Series consoles later on in summer 2021.
Now, the same is anticipated to come for Age of Empires 4. From our review for the game we wrote, “Age of Empires IV is a fantastic sequel worthy of the lineage it follows up.” Critic David Rodriguez adds, “Age of Empires IV is a welcome addition to a classic and beloved series. It plays well and doesn’t sacrifice any of its visuals or depth. It stands with Halo Wars as a great RTS to play, even as a casual fan of RTS titles.”
In a new discovery from @ALumia_Italia on Twitter, a new client dubbed “CARDINAL” has surfaced for Xbox Insider Hub on console. The significance of the finding is that cardinal is the codename used for Age of Empires IV ahead of the official announcement.
From the string of rumors and reports that circulated in recent weeks regarding Xbox Game Studios, Cardinal happens to be the most tangible as the project already shipped for one platform. Additional unannounced games include Project Belfry from Stoic Studios who already worked on the Banner Saga series on the platform.
What happens to be the most ambitious currently is Project Cobalt of InXile Entertainment. The game has been reported to be a first-person shooter RPG set in a Victorian/steampunk setting. The game previously has also be indicated to be utilizing Unreal Engine 5 too. You can read the full report by heading here.
