So far, Kojima Productions illustrates its focus for itself to be centered around Death Stranding, the 2019-released title has went on to be introduce over on PlayStation 4, but was later followed by a port to PC alongside PlayStation 5’s Death Stranding: Definitive Edition later on. However, there is more in its creative pipeline than just interactive media.

In the past, Kojima himself has referenced his interest in film & television. In an interview, himself and Art Director Yoji Shinkawa disclosed efforts to expand to projects including a mech anime. Kojima also notes staffing Shinkawa to helm a film project in mind without giving details on the project. The pair also elaborated on stretching into manga as well.

From an announcement made in November, Kojima Productions will be opening a new division based in California which will stand as a sector totally focused on film, television, and music.

“The new division will be tasked with working with creative and talented professionals in television, music and film, as well as the more familiar games industry,” division lead Riley Russel shares. Russel previous stood as a Chief Legal Officer at Sony Interactive Entertainment with a 28-long role at the firm before accompanying Kojima’s new proposition to gamesindustry.biz in a interview.

“Finding new ways to entertain, engage and offer value to our fans is essential in a fast-moving, ever changing storytelling world. Our new division will take the studio into even more areas that present our creative narratives beyond videogames and to open up ways for our fans to communicate and immerse themselves in these spaces.”

Previously, Kojima Productions was rumored to be working on a new Silent Hill project with Sony Interactive Entertainment fronting the bill. However, while this claim has circulated before, Japanese-centered outlet Gematsu has corroborated the claim alongside the Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake as well.
