Believe it or not, but fans were initially promised Gotham Knights for a 2021 release. While the major Batman pipeline for avid video game players simmered down with Batman Arkham Knight in 2015, Warner Bros. Montreal (Batman Arkham Origins) announced it will be working on a new project related to the Caped Crusader. It was revealed Gotham Knights is that project and it does not cast the World’s Greatest Detective.

Instead, the new project will instead feature Robin, Bat Girl, Nightwing, and Red Hood as the playable cast of characters. Despite a promise for last year to release, the game was later pushed to 2022. However, it was not until this past March that WB Games revealed an October release date for the game slated ahead of Halloween this fall.

This week, Warner Bros. Montreal unveiled new gameplay footage of the game showcasing Nightwing & Red Hood in action. However, according to the press release, this project is also scrapping its release on the last-generation Xbox One & PlayStation 4 systems as well.

Please note, to provide players with the best possible gameplay experience, the game will release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC and will not be available for PlayStation 4 or Xbox One consoles.

Originally, Gotham Knights was showcased as a cross-generation release with its available footage looking realistic for the spectrum of systems. However, it appears the scale of this new project and the visuals implemented are just too ambitious for the older hardware. Similarly, Rocksteady Studios already made this call around the same time it announced its project.

In 2020 alike the announcement of Gotham Knights, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was revealed at DC Fandome as well. With an ambitious cinematic trailer, the game was only listed for the newest systems. As of recently, the developer did press the game needs more time in the over and will instead be releasing in 2023 next year now. You can read the full report by heading here.
