When it comes to legacy support on current PlayStation hardware, PlayStation 5 for more than a year remained the only platform to natively play game from a previous system (PlayStation 4). However, the new Extra & Premium tiers for PlayStation Plus which went live back in June welcomes support for more games from PlayStation to Playstation 3.
But while continued support for these games rolls out for users on the service, the multiplayer servers are not safe from shutting down. Previously, we saw titles like Twisted Metal, Warhawk, and PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale lost its online features. More recently last September LittleBigPlanet, LittleBigPlanet 2, LittleBigPlanet 3, LittleBigPlanet (PS Vita) all shut down online support.
Recently, Guerrilla Games revealed announced Killzone: Shadow Fall, Killzone: Mercenary, And RIGS: Mechanized Combat League are to also lose its multiplayer servers later this week on August 12th.
What brings worse things to the matter for Killzone fans specifically, it appears that the future for the franchise is anything but hopeful – at least that’s what is being interpreted. In a discovery from analyst Robert Serrano on Twitter, the domain for the IP has expired with neither Sony Interactive Entertainment nor Guerrilla Games rebounding the website.
For Guerrilla Games’ most recent release Horizon Forbidden West, you should catch up with our review for the game. “Horizon: Forbidden West is an odd mix. The story-line and the direction of its plot and characters have made big leaps from the already impressive Zero Dawn. […] Horizon: Forbidden West is absolutely fantastic. A sure-fire classic.” You can read the full piece here.
