In the ultimate turn of events for the beloved Pac-Man series, the original arcade cabinet character over the past year received plenty of attention believe it or not. In 2021, the series welcomed a Tetris 99-like experience with Pac-Man 99 over on Nintendo Switch. The formulaic gameplay – alike with Tetris or even the Super Mario timed release – suits well for the release bringing a competitive edge with a modern twist.
Additionally, Pac-Man Museum+ released this past spring. Alongside shipping on modern platforms, the game also dropped upon release for Xbox Game Pass as well. Players can relive some of the most memorable Pac-Man titles whilst forging their own virtual arcade as you unlock new decorations to add your own personal touch.
This week, The Hollywood Reporter put out an exclusive story revealing that Pac-Man is to hit the big screen with a live-action adaptation. So far, the production is said to bring aboard Chuck Williams of Lightbeam Entertainment alongside Wayfarer Studios. Williams previously stood as an associate producer for 2020’s Sonic the Hedgehog and will produce on behalf of Lightbeam with Tim Kwok (Blade of the 47 Ronin, WITS Academy).
Justin Balboni (Clouds), Manu Gargi (The Peanut Butter Falcon), and Andrew Calof (Empire Waist) are to produce for Wayfarer Studios. Additionally, The Senior producer Tracy Ryerson is to also be developing for the new Pac-Man picture also. Details defining the approach for this new production is left unanswered following the initial story.
In other video game film news recently, it was reported that Duke Nukem is tackling another attempt for the silver screen. More precisely, Cobra Kai creators Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg are all said to be involved producing the new project. You can read the full report by heading here.
