Exploring the opportunities that followed the success of the near-decade-long Five Nights at Freddy’s IP, a film adaptation is one bullet point many can anticipate easily. Despite the fundamental gameplay being fairly primitive, many players become engrossed with the sprinkled storyline from each entry across the franchise. So with the meat of its storyline readily available, adapting to film could be a cakewalk.
However, things have been going for the worst with the production it was soon discovered. Years ago, it was announced that Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone director Chris Colombus would be helming the role for Five Nights at Freddy’s. In a later report, creator Chris Cawthon shared he’s eager to make the perfect script and is not concerned how long that will take. That was stated back in 2018, mind you.
It was in fall 2021 that Columbus announced his departure from the film. According to Variety, Five Nights at Freddy’s has found a new director. Emma Tammi (The Wind, Into The Dark) is to take up spot as director with filming said to commence as early as February 2023. Details in terms of casting has yet to be revealed.
“In meeting with Emma, I felt she had a great understanding of the franchise, and really felt that she could craft something that would please the fanbase and keep people on the edge of their seats,” Cawthon shared in a statement about the director to Variety. Cawthon & Tammi are to write alongside Seth Cuddeback (Mateo).
Jason Blum of Blumhouse Productions is to produce alongside Cawthon. Additionally, Striker Entertainment’s Russell Binder (Creepshow, Monsters of California) is also featured as executive producer. On Twitter, Blum corroborates the report with Tammi’s involvement and also mentions Jim Henson’s Creature Shop is working on the animatronics.
According to a previous teaser, it was evident on the group’s work by hinting with a miniature for what appears to be Freddy Fazbear. Blum at the time shared the image of Jim Henson’s Creature Shop constructing the character with his iconic hands, feet, and microphone then. You can read the full report by heading here.
