You read that correct. Mario Kart 7 has gotten an update after 10 years of being available on the Nintendo 3DS. Version 1.2 for the game is currently out now, but there wasn’t much details of what was actually updated.

Here is what the notes say regarding today’s updates:
“On December 13, 2022, a new software update for Mario Kart 7 became available for download. Please take a moment to download and install this update while your Nintendo Switch console is connected to the internet.”
It’s probably obvious that there was a typo saying “Nintendo Switch” in the notes, but we know they are most likely talking about the 3DS.

Mario Kart 7 launched on the Nintendo 3DS December 1, 2011 which makes it eleven years old already.
On the other hand, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has been a very successful game for the Nintendo Switch with its Wave 3 DLC coming out just a week ago adding more courses.
