It was already a good idea to consider Minecraft for a movie, but it was underway at Warner Bros. for years before being realized. With an April 2025 release date, the project attached both Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite, Nacho Libre) to direct with Jason Mamoa (Aquaman, Dune) to star in the new film adaptation.
Not to mention the casting announcement for Jack Black (The Super Mario Bros. Movie) to portray Steve. By December, Warner Bros. already began shooting for the new motion picture with production already kickoff. It wasn’t long until this past April that Minecraft officially finished as the movie jumps into post-production well until the following year.
Now with Minecraft just starting to celebrate 15 years of the game, a new partnership is underway. In a new announcement, Mojang Studios & Netflix art to pair up for a new Minecraft animated series. You can watch the teaser trailer in the video below:
“We’re thrilled to announce that we’ve joined forces with Netflix to produce an animated series set in our blocky universe. The series will tell an original story with new characters and reflect the world of Minecraft in a new light. It is currently in development by the talented studio WildBrain (creators of Sonic Prime, Ninjago: Dragons Rising, and Carmen Sandiego) and will debut exclusively on Netflix.”
Similarly, another extremely popular video game series is also receiving an animated show as well. In that, InnerSloth’s Among Us is underway with new updates for its casting including Elijah Wood, Yvette Nicole Brown, Ashley Johnson, and Randall Park. You can read the full report by heading here.
