At Xbox, it came as a surprise to learn that the firm at Microsoft is already pushing for the next console. While these machines typically offer a lengthened lifespan with a mid-gen refresh, there is nothing planned for Xbox Series X|S. Instead, it is anticipated by 2026 that the next Xbox console will be out. President Sarah Bond frames the unit as “the largest technological leap” for any commercial machine.
Additionally, Bond in a separate instance shared future endeavors for Xbox also include a pathway for continued legacy support – although, evidence on this effort has yet to be enlighten those listening just yet. Another passed around tad of details suggest a Xbox handheld – yes, an official one – is underway for next-generation.
Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer although not confirming the system did list what could be expected of this new unit. While under the pretense of being a hybrid console similar to Nintendo Switch many fans would have hoped, Windows Central’s Jez Corden tells it is a separate unit altogether. This comes from a podcast posted back in June which has recently picked up traction in a reupload by Corden.

“I’ll tell you now. There is- there- the handheld, there’s going to be a separate handheld, and there’s going to be an [Xbox] Series X successor,” Corden explained. “It’s going to be two different things. They’re not going to try and go all in on the handheld only. There’s- they’re going to a more traditional console for the Series X people and then a handheld.“
Other concerns that still linger around the Xbox branding is support for legacy media. Although there is digital means for your games, physical releases are minimizing on Xbox.
