One of the biggest surprises that came from Square Enix has to be its commitment to support Xbox. Despite being grandfathered into PlayStation since the platform’s inception, the publisher said its adamant on delivering more to the Microsoft console. Additionally, Final Fantasy developers recently indicated that more from Square Enix is planned in regards to the franchise.
Already, we’ve witnessed this effort with Final Fantasy XIV Online as well as Visions of Mana & Octopath Traveller II. Beyond that, there is an understanding that Square Enix is preparing to release Final Fantasy XVI on Xbox too. With the recent release set for PC, plans to share more is on the horizon. Even main director Hiroshi Takai suggest other platforms are being considered for the release.
In the recent Xbox Two Podcast, Windows Central Jez Corden indicates that many high-profile Final Fantasy titles including Final Fantasy Remake & Final Fantasy XVI is “on the docket” for Xbox. You can watch the segment in the video below:
“I do think we are going to get something Final Fantasy related [at Tokyo Game Show],” Corden explains. “I’ve heard that the whole slate’s on the docket, you know, including Final Fantasy VII [Remake], XVI, and Pixel Remasters. There’s this- a lot of people are wondering is Sony locking down Final Fantasy VII forever. I’ve heard that is not the case and Final Fantasy VII will eventually come to Xbox.”
The extent of Corden’s comment comes from the realization in scale for Microsoft’s presence at Tokyo Game Show. Recently, the Xbox firm revealed its plans to host a presentation during the event scheduled for this month. The show is set for September 26th. You can read the full report by heading here.
