Team Asobi released Astro Bot almost a month ago as one of the best platformers we’ve seen in a long time. The game is full of fantastic references that were released on PlayStation consoles through the years including games that made PlayStation what it is today. There could have been more character bots featured in the game including ones from Square Enix franchises.

Astro Bot players have questioned the absence of bots themed after Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy. The obvious bots to make would have been Sora, Cloud Strife, and Sephiroth. Kingdom Hearts has always been a PlayStation-only series and Final Fantasy 7 is most known for its some from PlayStation 1.

In a recent interview with Team Asobi chief Nicolas Doucet, it was revealed that the developer approached Square Enix about a possible collaboration. This interview came from an exclusive interview with Game File.

Doucet said that Square Enix refused to be featured in Astro Bot. It’s difficult to comment on that,” Doucet said, and added, “We really respect the choice of each publisher.”
