Capcom Shares New Commitment To ‘Re-activate Dormant IPs’ Following Onimusha/Okami Announcements

As of late, Capcom has took many by surprise with its new string of announcements at The Game Awards. Partly due to the sheer gull returning to dormant franchises. In one reveal, Onimusha: Way of the Sword was revealed. The first reveal for what felt like an IP to be forgotten in time. Additionally, Okami Sequel was announced. Atop of the teaser, Hideki Kamiya is returning to Capcom once more for the project as well.

In regards to Capcom’s efforts to explore its legacy franchises, it is already establishing that elsewhere. With the recent release of Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, the firm has already begun polling users if more in that series is of interest to be revisited. Another aspect that Capcom has been championed for is support for physical releases. The publisher insists that the demand is still present in an ever growing digital market.

Now according to a new press release from Capcom, it is revealed that the firm is now eagerly exploring its repertoire to “re-activate dormant IPs”. The two recent announcements are just the tip of the iceberg for this new initiative.

“In addition to regularly releasing major new titles each year, Capcom is focusing on re-activating dormant IPs that haven’t had a new title launch recently. The company is working to further enhance corporate value by leveraging its rich library of content, which includes reviving past IPs like the two titles announced above, in order to continuously produce highly efficient, high-quality titles.”

On the same topic, the Capcom has also confirmed that Ace Attorney is one franchise on the radar to be revisited in the future. In an interview, series producer Kenichi Hashimoto elaborated that plans for the series are being discussed with optimism towards a new installment in the near future.
