
The Katamari Damacy franchise has faced a resurgence since the arrival of the Nintendo Switch. In late 2018, classic PlayStation 2 title found its way to the hybrid console. And 2019 the following year Bandai Namco announced PlayStation & Xbox versions for the game as well. And that was only one aspect of Keita Takahashi creations being released then.
Around the same time, it was revealed that a new IP Wattam would also release as well. Another one of Takahashi’s projects did release later on too. In 2023, Katamri Damacy We Love Katamari REROLL+ Royal Reverie also arrived welcoming the equally loved sequel to modern hardware as well.
In an announcement this week, Bandai Namco is back with a new Katamari Damacy announcement. Part of a collaboration with Apple Arcade, a new platform exclusive ‘Katamri Damacy Rolling LIVE’ is coming next month. “the Katamari franchise’s first original game in nearly eight years — launches exclusively on Apple Arcade. In this new adventure, players roll the Katamari as ordered by the King of All Cosmos, embracing the series’ iconic gameplay of ‘roll, stick, and grow,’” the press release says.
The synopsis reads: “In this quirky action game — an Apple Arcade exclusive — players expand their Katamari by rolling up objects scattered across the earth. Featuring unique and whimsical gameplay, and a captivating soundtrack that blends different genres, the game invites players to energize the king’s “live stream” by rolling their Katamari to create stars.
“As users advance, comments from in-game fans appear, and the longer they play, the larger their audience grows. By completing the king’s challenges and boosting their subscriber count, players can unlock dynamic new stages.” Alongside ‘Katamri Damacy Rolling LIVE, other titles are coming to Apple Arcade including Taiko no Tatsujin Pop Tap Beat, Tamagotchi Adventure Kingdom, PAC-MAN Party Royale, and Space Invaders Infinity Gene Evolve.
