xbox series price increase

Today, Microsoft made an announcement that may not have shocked everyone at this point. It has been well known that the recent tariffs will impact the cost of consoles, accessories, and possibly games.

Microsoft announced that as of May 1, 2025, Xbox Series consoles will go up in price. The cost of the Xbox Series X will be $599.99, Xbox Series S 512GB is now $379.99, and most notably, the Xbox Series X 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition will now cost $729.99.

They also announced that Xbox first-party games will start to cost $79.99 USD starting this Holiday.

Here is a list of the new Xbox console, controller, and headset prices (USD):

  • Xbox Series S 512 – $379.99
  • Xbox Series S 1TB – $429.99
  • Xbox Series X Digital – $549.99
  • Xbox Series X – $599.99 (up from $499.99)
  • Xbox Series X 2TB Galaxy Special Edition $729.99 (up from $599.99)
  • Xbox Wireless Controller (Core) – $64.99
  • Xbox Wireless Controller (Color) – $69.99
  • Xbox Wireless Controller – Special Edition – $79.99
  • Xbox Wireless Controller – Limited Edition – $89.99

  • Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 (Full) – $199.99

  • Xbox Wireless Headset – $119.99

While Xbox has announced its price increases in the United States and the rest of the world, Sony has not revealed if the PlayStation 5 will receive price increases in North America.

Nintendo was the first of the big three to announce slight price changes. The Switch 2 remained at the same price of $449.99, but most accessories saw a price increase of at least $5 or more in some cases.

Mario Kart World was the first large game to be priced at $79.99, and it looks like other large publishers may follow the same route. When pre-orders went live for the Switch 2 launch game, it almost sold out on Walmart.

What do you think of new games costing $80?
