SEGA is among the many publishers that released games on the Switch 2 without putting the full game on the physical cartridge. Yakuza 0: Director’s Cut, Sonic X Shadow Generations, and Puyo Puyo Tetris were released with game key cards.
Today, SEGA announced Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds for the Nintendo Switch 2 will feature the full base game on the cartridge. The digital release of CrossWorlds is Holiday 2025 on the Switch 2 while the physical edition is early 2026.
This information was revealed on Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds’ FAQ page, where they reveal that the physical version of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will feature the full base game on a 64GB cartridge. SEGA also announced that an Upgrade Pack will be available for Switch 1 users, with all content and progress carrying over for Switch 2.
The Upgrade Pack for CrossWorlds is $10.

This will now be the first SEGA title that will have a true physical release on the Nintendo Switch 2. Who knows what this means for current games like Yakuza 0: Director’s Cut, which currently have the game key card.
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will have a variety of collaborations, including SpongeBob, Minecraft, and TMNT.
