Ubisoft Reveals New Ghost Recon Game Is Coming As A First-Person Shooter

The current headspace at Ubisoft is recalibrating as it is looking to explore its IPs in a better way. After poor performance of titles like Star Wars Outlaws & Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, the publisher is exploring new frontiers moving forward. This included a €1.16 billion investment from Tencent as reports loomed of a buyout last year.

So far, reports have pointed to Ubisoft exploring its legacy IPs. This includes the beloved Rayman series. It was reported back in May that it is hiring for what looks to be a new Rayman title. It is understood to be some form of reboot for the franchise. Additionally, other claims point towards another Apex Legends-like battle royale after the fallout of Hyperscape a few years prior.

One IP that many are hoping to see a return is Ghost Recon. In 2022, Kotaku reported a new title is being pieced together internally. But as of recent, Ubisoft now confirms a new game is on the way. Via Game File, the publisher told at a shareholder meeting that it will be revisiting Ghost Recon and that it will be a first-person shooter featured experience.

“Our objective is to also make strong progress in the growing market, generally speaking, by continuing to enhance our current experiences that we offer—and capitalizing on upcoming launches, such as The Division and Ghost Recon,” Yves Guillemot shared in a statement following the success of Rainbow Six Siege, another Tom Clancy franchise.

Ubisoft CFO Frederick Duguet added on the subject when speaking of its new assistance from Tencent that will be “used for future development of other major brand names. So we’ve got… Ghost Recon is just one example, for our first-person-shooter-type games.” He also iterates on their live-service projects also being a focus from the capital investment.
