In May, Microsoft announced it was raising the price of Xbox Series consoles and accessories along with its first-party games starting to cost $80 this holiday. The Outer Worlds 2 was the first Xbox game that was planned to cost $80 however, Microsoft has reversed its plans.
It was announced yesterday that The Outer Worlds 2 will now cost $70. This was likely due to feedback from consumers and possibly the performance of pre-orders since June.
This is what Obsidian Entertainment posted on its social media on Wednesday, July 23:
We have received your SOS via skip drone about the pricing. As an organization devoted to making sure that corporations do not go unfettered, we at the Earth Directorate have worked with [REDACTED] to revise the price of The Outer Worlds 2. While this will not bring peace to the galaxy, or even your local colony, we assure you all that we are here to fight for all colonies in every way that we can.
The $80 trend started with Mario Kart World when Nintendo announced the price tag in April. Since then it has been expected more publishers will follow that trend. While it received backlash at the time the game has likely sold millions to go along with the Switch 2.
The Outer Worlds 2 releases October 29 for Xbox Series, PS5, and PC via Steam.
Do you think this was a good idea by Microsoft to lower the price of The Outer Worlds 2?
