One of the largest takeaways from Microsoft’s new efforts for Xbox is the open-ended approach the platform is continuing to explore. Earlier this year, we already saw the implementation of Xbox PC – this new launcher for Windows has shown to cross your gaming experience between different hardware. This includes purchases. The platform also enabled to other storefronts like Steam & Battle.net as well this past June.
Exploring what else is available to users that proceed to play through the Xbox ecosystem, a separate update earlier in July also welcomed streaming your purchases on PC now. It has been supported since last year on console, but is now entering to other peripherals. Ultimately, this is all towards the commitment of offering your titles through as many means as possible; which the Xbox body has continued to promise for some time.
Now this week, Microsoft is going a step further with the introduction of another feature for the same tree. Via Xbox Insider, players will be able to access cloud-streamable titles through multiple devices as part of the ongoing cross-device effort.
“Xbox Insiders will also begin to see all their cloud-playable games included in their play history and Library right from the Xbox PC app. This includes all cloud playable titles, even console exclusives spanning from the original Xbox to Xbox Series X|S, whether you own the title or access it through Game Pass. Now, you can now find all games able to be played via cloud gaming in one convenient place,” Xbox experiences product manager Lily Wang writes.
“Plus, your recent games now follow you across devices. Whether you’re on console, PC, or a Windows handheld, a new play history tile makes it easy to jump back into the games you’ve recently played within the Xbox ecosystem, so you can always pick up right where you left off. No matter the device, your progress, preferences, and play moments are always just a tap away – be it continuing a late-night session on your laptop, sneaking in a quick match on your handheld, or diving deep on your console, Xbox makes it effortless to stay connected to the games you love.”
The continued push for this initiative has been part of an ongoing research project at Xbox. Back at CES, Microsoft revealed that younger generations play games more frequently through several peripherals. Now, Xbox is acting on this matter for its platform to adapt to this playstyle.
