For Xbox, the shift to multiplatform has not had the clearest of messaging. Although it was understood more of its titles will ship to other platforms, the implications for which games remained unclarified. But what was relayed by the Xbox firm is the new effort on the PC landscape. Via promotions online, ‘Xbox PC’ would be the new standard for gaming implementing a universal platform for its users.
The promise to integrate Windows was apparent and campaigned to feature cross-buy support for your purchase library to reach new lengths. Updates continued to roll out as well which included third-party storefronts alongside streaming your purchase library via cloud on the platform too. At least, it was indicated that the messaging was direct on this approach.
However, it was now revealed through new promotional material that ‘Xbox PC’ is already old news. Despite the push for it back in June, there is a new tagline for Xbox in PC gaming. Via the story trailer for Grounded 2, the video ends with listed platforms. Among Xbox Series X|S & Xbox Cloud, PC is mentioned as ‘Xbox on PC’ now.
Additionally, the same is also said from the upcoming expansion for Age of Mythology: Retold. As per the new blog post on pre-orders going live for add-on Heavenly Spear, it also uses the same tagline ‘Xbox on PC’ as well. So although ushering a new name for PC regarding Microsoft’s gaming division, a new name has already been issued for it less than two months later.
This is not the first instance we saw Microsoft recalibrate its approach to Xbox recently. Via Video Games Plus, the game distributor revealed that both The Outer Worlds 2 as well as Ninja Gaiden 4 are available with physical versions. Originally, the both only offered digital codes for the titles when revealed prior. You can read the full report by heading here.
Are you any surprised by Microsoft’s decision?
