For years, the outcry of an Xbox handheld was apparent during the height of Microsoft’s gaming endeavor. And although Xbox Cloud Streaming has offered an alternative with your own device, it was not a dedicated device. Even with more than 10 percent of users playing exclusively through it, the demand for a proprietary device still lingered.
Came June earlier this year, Microsoft & ASUS revealed the ROG Xbox Ally. In both Ally White & Ally X Black, players would have two options to decide on the new peripheral. The larger concern would be pricing, however. Especially with the latest line of consoles now set to go up in price, it is only a bigger regard for fans interested.
Via Best Buy, prices pointed towards $550 & $900 roughly. But following the new price adjustments, Microsoft has settled on $599.99 & $999.99 respectively as pre-orders went live. And, at least on the Xbox Store, the device pre-orders already sold out. Pre-orders are still available via ASUS, and Best Buy.
Some of the draws to this new device comes with the promises & actions taken by Microsoft. Although a large price for entry, the Xbox firm has been vocal on its messaging for ROG Xbox Ally and other PC-tied devices. Specifically, the ASUS handheld has been advertised to play Xbox titles natively which other units have yet to properly implement.
Additionally, Microsoft has begun rolling out new quality of life additions to its ecosystem. Namely, aggregate storefront transparency. Regardless on Xbox, Steam, or Epic Games Store, your purchases will be available regardless of your platform. You can read the full report by heading here.
Are you surprised that ROG Xbox Ally is selling that fast?
ROG Xbox Ally & ROG Xbox Ally X will release on October 16, 2025.
