For Xbox Game Pass, the service probably is one of the more approachable options out there for gaming. Across console, PC, as well as cloud streaming, the options & its offerings are not to be shrugged off. In recent time, the service has shown to be a marvel for Microsoft. It was reported earlier this year that the business model serves as a profitable venture for the Xbox firm.
Additionally, with the platform now mending to its multiplatform efforts, there are major changes for users concerning Game Pass. Cloud streaming has begun opening its doors to more users with both Core & Standard gaining access to the service. But to properly indoctrinate this, Microsoft has restructured its tiers with new pricing too. This week, Xbox Game Pass features a trio of new options: Essential, Premium, and Ultimate.
Now alongside the new coat of paint for Xbox Game Pass, Microsoft has quietly updated how Microsoft Rewards is applicable to Xbox Game Pass. As of Wednesday October 1st, users can no longer redeem points towards the subscription. Users via Reddit has shared the message that shed the disappointing news.
As noted already, Microsoft is reflecting on Xbox Game Pass as a profitable return for its gaming division. So to capitalize on more from its consumers, the option to remove service redemption via its rewards program is one way to approach it. Previously, it was reported that Xbox Game Pass in Q4 2025 has generated nearly $5 billion as of late July.
Similarly, Microsoft is not the only firm to strip this option from its users. Last October, Sony Interactive Entertainment shared the same can not be offered for PlayStation Plus via PlayStation Stars. But, the service is to soon sunset later this fall. Are you surprised at all by this move from Microsoft?
