Earlier this fall, Sony Interactive Entertainment touted the success of the PlayStation 5 as the platforms highest return for any console release. It went on to reveal this past week that PlayStation 5 is over 84 million units sold. And while console shows to be a strong leader, it is exploring outside of the traditional business model. Previously, it was confirmed that Sony is eager to establish a greater platform for the brand outside of consoles.
Via a job listing uncovered earlier this summer, it was indicated that new efforts at Sony Interactive Entertainment is entertaining multiplatform release. The posting is understood to support Xbox, Nintendo, and PC. Additionally, there is also the initiative for a larger presence in mobile play. Recently, cloud streaming went live for the PlayStation Portal to enrich the peripheral with a wider library and not as bound alike remote play.
Now further supporting its new mindset over at PlayStation, evidence recently points towards a new feature that will bring many of its actions full circle. Via X, user @yAmethxst discovered new symbols in a recent datamine which includes ‘PS5/PC’ and ‘Cross-Buy’.
Upon initial reporting, it was considered that the finding was attached to legacy code in the PlayStation 5 coding, but instead was added more recently. Dealabs in a separate report shared that these symbols were part of an update that went live in June 2025. There is also an ‘Eco Mode’ icon as well. It is unsure when either of the three icons will be properly implemented into the PlayStation 5 interface officially.Â
This is not the only foreseen addition to PlayStation 5 that Sony Interactive Entertainment has cooking up. It was also pressed upon this spring that in-house PSSR is to receive a fairly decent overhaul next year with implementation for AMD-powered FidelityFX Super Resolution 4.
