
Although currently dormant, PlayStation has done other things with the Twisted Metal IP. The most apparent is the Peacock television series. First airing back in 2023, the show quickly became a golden egg for the streamer as Twisted Metal swelled into becoming the most viewed release for Peacock then.
Not to say there weren’t attempts for a new game. One report pointed towards a live-service attempt for the franchise that would tied into the TV series. But, is has since been canceled dating back to 2024 report. Additionally, the Peacock television show was greenlit for a second season which arrived this past July earlier in the summer.
Now this month, a new report reveals that Twisted Metal will be returning with a third season. Variety reports that another season has been greenlit at Peacock and that the series will be receiving a new showrunner. Replacing Michael Jonathan Smith who co-created the series is to now be replaced with David Reed. Reed’s previous work includes Amazon’s The Boys, Paramount+ series Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, and even penned for shows like Supernatural.
Show co-creators Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are to stand as executive producers alongside Reed in his new role. Marc Forman & Will Arnett to also executive produce under Electric Ave while star Anthony Mackie will for Make It Gravy Productions; Jason Spire of Inspire Entertainment; Peter Principato from Artists First; Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan at PlayStation Productions; Hermen Hulst for Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Studio Business.
Recently, two of PlayStation Productions’ releases this year was nominated for Best Adaptation at The Game Awards. Amongst A Minecraft Movie, Splinter Cell: Deathwatch, and Devil May Cry, The Last of Us Season 2 & Until Dawn also received nominations for the category. You can read the full report by heading here.
