Although a dorman IP currently on the PlayStation side of things, Twisted Metal is a beloved franchise from the older gaming hardware that players still reflect upon. Previously, it was reported that the inner plans for a new game was shuttered back in early 2024. An additional report went on to reveal the game was aiming to be a battle royale during its infancy before being closed.
However, the series has lived on as a television show. Via streamer Peacock, the TV series has remained a hallmark for the platform. Upon the arrival of the first season, Twisted Metal was met with record viewership for the platform then. And given the success of the show at the time, it was no surprise when star Anthony Mackie revealed that another season has been greenlit.
Now from the events of the inaugural season, Twisted Metal season 2 is just on the horizon. In a new exclusive from IGN, it is revealed that Twisted Metal season 2 is set to air this July. “Everybody’s a villain this season because we’re in a tournament,” Mackie hints in his statement to the publication. Showrunner Michael Jonathan Smith continued:
“John, at the end of Season 1, gets his wish in a way. He wants community, he wants family, and he gets this realization at the end of Season 1 that he’s actually from New San Francisco.” Star Mackie also says: “That’s the great thing about the new season, he’s pretty much on top of the world. He’s gotten everything he could ask for and he’s realizing what’s the truth of the New San Francisco life now.”
Smith goes on to elaborate on the dynamic of Dollface & John entering into season 2. “What’s great is that Krista has sort of been on the outside and she’s had a different experience than John. Krista has seen the inequality between the Insiders and Outsiders, and she doesn’t like it. She has decided to fight against it and really wants to find a balance between the Insiders and Outsiders.”
