The Sonic movies have been a huge hit for Paramount Pictures and SEGA since the movie debuted in 2020. Today, Variety exclusively reported that Paramount is planning to release an untitled “Sonic Universe Event Film” for December 22, 2028.
The outlet says the upcoming Sonic entry is separate from Sonic the Hedgehog 4, which is planned to hit theaters in March 2027. All that we know about the Sonic spinoff movie is that Neal H. Moritz will be producing the film, who has also helped with the Sonic the Hedgehog trilogy.
In other Sonic movie-related news, there have been reports that Sonic 4 could be renamed to ‘Sonic CD‘ since that was the game that featured a time travel mechanic and introduced the newest characters.
There has been speculation that a Shadow the Hedgehog spinoff movie or series is in the works with Paramount Pictures. SEGA has also filed a trademark for the character in the last two months.
