The legacy of Star Wars continues to deepen across multiple mediums. For its games, there is plenty of anticipated releases on the way. One is the upcoming remake for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Announced back in 2021, the game has reshaped in the following years behind the scenes. It was reported that Saber Interactive has since picked up the project from Aspyr.
Additionally, another anticipated project is Star Wars: Eclipse. Announced in 2021, it was pitted to be an ultimate dialogue experience with David Cage’s Quantic Dream behind the project. Years later, the developer in 2025 addressed that the title is progressing smoothly as it also focuses on other projects internally at the French game studio.
At The Game Awards, Lucasfilm Games & Arcanaut Studios revealed a new entry in the Knights of the Old Republic series – Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic. Casey Hudson, known for Mass Effect and being game director on the original Star Wars titles, is returning for the new game. You can watch the announcement trailer in the video below:
“Now, 25 years after we started work on that game, our aspirations are equally ambitious. Fate of the Old Republic represents an opportunity to explore a contemporary vision of a definitive Star Wars experience, using state-of-the-art technology and game design, and an all-new story crafted specifically to deliver on the combination of player agency and immersion in Star Wars that was at the heart of KOTOR,” Hudson in a statement said.
“Lucasfilms Games general manager Douglas Reilly does state that the new game is not a direct sequel to Knights of the Old Republic, but elaborates that “it is being built by people who helped shape that legacy. […] For us, this new project is about honoring that legacy by creating something in the same tradition of a deep, cinematic, choice-driven role-playing game.”
